*Celebrated between September 15 to October 15, *Hispanic- Latinx Heritage
Month* honors the cultures, histories, contributions, and achievements of
people in the US who came from or whose ancestors came from the Caribbean,
Mexico, Central America, South America, and Spain.* This year, the focus
is on the themes of prosperity, power, and progress, recognizing the
significant strides of Latinos in the economic, political, and social
growth of the U.S. under the theme “*Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power,
and Progress in America.*”

*About National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month*

“Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month from
September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and
contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico,
the Caribbean and Central and South America.

“The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President
Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover
a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was
enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

“The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of
independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate
their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively.
Hispanic/Latinx heritage holds an indelible place in the heart and soul of
our Nation, and National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month reminds us that the
American identity is a fabric of diverse traditions and stories woven
together. Since the beginning, our country has drawn strength and insights
from Hispanic/Latinx writers, scientists, soldiers, doctors, entrepreneurs,
academics, and leaders in labor and government. Our culture has been
enriched by the rhythms, art, literature, and creativity of Hispanic/Latinx
peoples. And our deepest values have been informed by the love of family
and faith that is at the core of so many Hispanic/Latinx communities. All
of these contributions help us realize the promise of America for all
Americans.”

The population growth, increasing political representation, and economic
success pave the way for the rise and recognition of Latinos undeniable
positive contributors to the country – Hispanic/Latinx Stars. Despite
obstacles, Latinos persist and thrive, achieving remarkable success in
areas that were once considered off-limits. From CEOs of Fortune 500
companies to Pulitzer and Nobel Peace Prize winners, Latinos are driving
America's economic prosperity and continuously driving innovation and
economic growth.

Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month is an incredible opportunity to speak with
one voice, acknowledge the crucial role that they play in shaping the
future of our country and the world, and to celebrate and recognize them as
employees, suppliers, consumers, and community. They need to be seen,
heard, and valued and are more likely to engage with individuals or
organizations that actively invest in and celebrate their contributions to
America, which are driving prosperity, power, and progress. These three
themes - prosperity, power, and progress - are all interconnected.

Look at their *Prosperity*: The community's economic power is growing
stronger every year. Their businesses are growing at an unprecedented rate,
and their workforce is expanding rapidly. From small startups to Fortune
500 companies, they are starting businesses, buying homes, and investing in
their futures. They are driving America's economic prosperity and
continuously driving innovation and economic growth in ways that can no
longer be ignored.

Look at their *Power*: Their community is making waves in every sector, and
we are gaining power and influence in politics and society. From politics
to entertainment to technology, they are breaking barriers, and they are
showing the world what they are capable of achieving. Power, too, is
becoming increasingly concentrated in their hands. As they continue to
succeed economically, they gain control, authority, and influence over
others. They are becoming a controlling group, shaping the direction of our
country and making their voices heard.

And finally, look at their *Progress*: From education to income, Latinos
are advancing in a positive direction and driving American progress.
Progress is inherent to Latinos because what truly unifies them is their
desire to move forward. And that is great for all because Latino Progress
is American Progress.

*Join us (Beloit College - Residential Life) in recognizing and celebrating
the prosperity, power, and progress of Latinos during this special month
and beyond. *

of our civilization.” -Mahatma Gandhi*
